What do you think of when you hear the name Keanu Reeves? Action star? Enlightened being? Perhaps someone you want to ride motorcycles with through the winding PCH?

Even with all these wonderful attributes that we can conjure in our mind when thinking of Keanu, there’s still one bad image I can never shake, Keanu is a smoker. Why on earth would someone with so much success, someone who gives generously  to cancer charities still partake in this disgusting habit?

There could be a slew of reason that he still feels the need to suck on a gross cancer stick, but in short, nicotine can truly be that addictive. But that doesn’t mean it is hard to quit.

The only real way to quit and have long term success, is to find what truly propels you to flip that switch. Often times it can be a loved one who died from poor health, or sometimes one can not change until they themselves get some grave news. But if you really want to take control of your life, get a handle around what is holding you back, then talking to a professional therapist or coach to get to the root of your “why’s” and find leverage to help you turn on the switch in your subconscious, is the best way to begin. Don’t wait for some drastic horrible news, take control Right Now.

Another reason some folks do not want to give up this nasty habit is just that, it is a habit. They are not even aware they are smoking until the cigarette is in their mouth and they are puffing away. Cultivating mindfulness around bad habits can be a game changer. If every time Keanu went to light a cigarette and was completely mindful of what he was doing and how he was endangering his health, the health of those around him and the environment, I am willing to bet that he would at least be cutting down.

Once you cultivate awareness and health around smoking and once you begin to dig a little deeper as to why are you smoking, the next best step is to see a hypnotherapist to help etch those neural pathways a little deeper to assist you on your new journey. Hypnosis works at a subconscious level and assists you with your change in a variety of ways. Think of it as a jumpstart to your success. One of the simplest ways it help is by giving you ‘pause’ when you want to reach for any smoking paraphernalia. This gives you a chance to reassess your actions and breaks that neural pathway.

It is a shame that Keanu Reeves is still smoking and is a role model to so many around the globe. Maybe one day he will flip that switch and realize just how awful smoking is for everyone, including “the chosen one.”
