Attitude Adjustment Made Easy
As a Hypnotherapist, I have clients always asking if there is a secret quick fix to changing an ongoing unwanted behaviour. Usually the answer is not really, but if someone is looking for a quick change in a negative attitude, the simplest way to change is by adjusting your body language.
Our body language is said to tell more about us than our words, actions and even appearance. As an example, if you are on a date and that person is leaning away from you or has their arms crossed, there is a good chance they are not that into you. Now, if they are leaning in and mirroring your gestures (think leaning the head to one side or sitting back openly in your chair), then there is a good chance they can’t wait for a second date.
So it makes sense that if our body langue has such a subliminal affect on others, imagine what it has on ourselves.
The most common proof is a simple smile. Psychologists have proven when we smile we automatically change our neural pathways from being in a bad mood to feeling lighter or happier. We can also change others with a smile. Rarely when you smile at others do you not get a smile in return.
The same goes with body language. When we walk proud or stand tall, we automatically feel more energy and a sense of pride or when we are hunched over and shuffling our feet we have a feeling of gloom. Even if you have to fake it, try sitting with your shoulders straight and tall you can feel that your whole body energy does indeed change.
Another simple trick is to pick a theme song. Think of something that makes you happy, feel sexy or is just a great beat that you love. Now the next time you are walking into a party or even down the street, play this song in your head. Notice how your steps change, your hips might add a bit more sway and sometimes we began to smile without even realizing it. You can try this trick in a sexual situation, too. As a Sex Coach I will tell clients who are lacking confidence in the bedroom to try this. It can be one of the simpler assignments I give.
Try out one of these suggestions in your everyday personal life and see how it affects you and others. Do you feel more energy standing tall? If you change your body language on a date or in a meeting, does the other person change theirs? Can you lose your insecurities just by playing a song in your head? Let me know which one worked best for you.
